Lions beat Kickers FC 9-0 in SPL

[ SPL ] Shanghai Lions FC 9 – 0 Kickers FC

Another windy Sunday but with pollution… Our opponents were new to us although a few players came from the Krauts. Our team was very motivated as we had almost the full squad to start the warm up 30 minutes before the game.

Since we were well prepared, we attacked the game full speed! After 20 minutes, we already had scored 3 goals! With the wind in the back, we used our speed to play behind their defense. We soon got our 4th goal and it was the right time to have our new players (Corentin, Masa and Racann) on the pitch! As they have been attending all recent trainings, it was easy for them to find their place in the team and we reached half-time at 5-0.

With the wind against in the second half, we changed our game with more passes on the ground and acceleration on the wings… with the same result! 4 more goals to reach 9-0 but the most important is that we achieved our 3rd CLEAN SHEET!

Next game is on Sunday, November 19 against MMFC. I count on you to stay fit and the best way is to attend the training!

Have a nice week

Lions get their revenge against Japan

[ SPL ] Shanghai Lions FC 1 – 0 Japan FC

Beautiful windy Sunday on a nice WGQ pitch! We had a short but strong squad to get our revenge against the Japanese team who defeated us in the semi final of the cup back in June.
We had the wind against us in the first half and struggled to get in the Japanese box, turning around and taking our chance from too far to scare their keeper. Our opponents were proceeding with fast counter attacks but our defense was well in place. Despite a bar for the Japanese and a shoot from Amor, there were very few occasions in this first half.
We put more rhythm in second half and had several opportunities to score. Japanese were making more faults offering free kicks to Azz. After hitting the post, he had another opportunity 5 minutes before the end of the game, created by Tevz, at the entrance of the box. He did not miss it! A second win in a row, to be continued!

Be ready for the next game on Sunday, same time, same place, against the Kickers FC (new name for the Krauts).

Have a nice week!

Young Lions beat the Dulwich Earthquakes 3-1

[ YOUTH ] Shanghai Lions FC 3 – 1 Dulwich Earthquakes

It was perfect weather clean air and 22 degrees ! We had large squad and still some players missing who had other commitments !

We started the game well with everybody playing in their positions our idea was to defend first with everybody and play on counters. The result was that we got most of the possession and the Earthquakes couldn’t get into the game. We had plenty of chances in the first 30 minutes and should have gotten one or two penalties Till came close and Julia almost scored with a header. A slip up from the earthquakes defenders give Daiki the chance to open the score.

In the second half we brought on most of our substitutes and it was a bit more difficult to keep our shape. However on great counter it was Till this time who finished it off to give us a 2-0 lead. The Earthquakes did play better in the second half and possession was equal to both teams. With 15 minutes to go they took us by surprise with a long pass thru the middle and they made it 2-1. Now it was time to hold our nerves and stay composed we did just that and with a great pass from our side we launched Matthew who lobbed the ball over the out-coming keeper to seal our three points.

I liked the celebration of the third goal as it showed how badly we wanted to win which is great ! Big compliment to our rookie keeper Tim he made the save of the day with one finger after he gave the ball by accident to the Earthwquake striker !

Well done everybody and see you all on Wednesday !

Cheers

Lions Legends beat Lions Youth 6-4 in a friendly match

[ Friendly ] Lions Legends 6 – 4 Lions Youth

Last Sunday it was what call real football weather ! Rainy and and a strong cold wind however it didn’t take away the importance of the Legend game versus our own youth team ! 14 Legends showed up and 18 Youth Players.

We played according to the SPL V format 4 x 20 minutes and in the first 20 minutes the youth showed their speed and hunger for goals however the Legends took a 2-0 lead. The youth got a goal back on a fast counter.

In the second 20 minutes the youth played their best football and the game was good entertainment for the parents who came out to watch ! goals on both ends from quick counters resulted in a 4-4 score line.

In the third twenty minutes the Legends took more and more possession and controlled the game but they failed to score.

In the last 20 minutes the youth tried their best but were running out of energy as the Legends kept passing the ball around and managed to score two goals to make the final score 6-4 !

Overall it was a very good experience for both the Legends and our Youth players we will surely organize a re-match in the near future !

We have training on Tuesday for the Seniors and Wednesday and Friday for our Youth !

This Saturday our Youth will play against Dulwich Earthquakes 14:00 kick off at Concordia & on Sunday Senior will play against Japan 13:00 kick off at SCSC.

Looking forward to some good games of football and a bit better weather !

Cheers
