For this SPL game vs. Galacticos, we had a large squad with a mix of old and young players. Remi was making his debut as Lions while George (one of our youth player) was playing for the first time with the seniors as left back. For this game, our only problem was that Galacticos only had 9 players at the start of the match… As the weather was too good and everybody was ready to play, we went ahead and decided to play the game still. Despite this numerical advantage, the team agreed that the key of the game would be to stay focus/serious as it was important for us to work on the goal difference and keep a clean-sheet.
In the first half we played a bit too slow and didn’t make use of the fact that we were playing against 9 instead of 11 players but we still managed to score 7 goals. In the second half, we let the substitutes come in and played a bit faster. The game got better as well as Galacticos managed to finally get a full squad. At the end, we scored 8 more goals in the 2nd half and a good save by Noel (our goalie) helped us to keep the sheet clean.
Lets all come to the training to stay in shape and focus on the next match against Japan.
Last weekend, the Lions family decided to start 2019 on a good note taking into consideration that usually right after new year we are not 100% in shape… In our senior match match especially, our Kickers opponent had lined up good players from everywhere to try to beat us but our combination with youth, experience and collective spirit on the pitch made it happen !
On Saturday our U15 beat the Dulwich Earthquakes academy 4-0 with a great hard working team effort
Sunday morning, our legends beat England 3-1 with a good team performance
Just 2 weeks after new year, we were playing England FC in SPL Veteran. As we all know it’s always hard after new year hard as Xmas excess has to be paid cash when you are a legend.
2-0 up in the 1st 20mn with England FC looking weak, we were put at the test in the 2nd 20mn as they brought on actual better players and we started to take it easy as it goes in football you get punished for that and england got a goal back and even came close to drew !
In the 3rd 20mn, our legends knew that we needed to step it up as england got their believe back and they thought that they could get something out of the match however we defended well. In the last 20mn we knew england would push forward. Thus, we played on the counter and finished it off with a great cross of Matze and perfect header by James which sealed the deal ! 3-1 win over England !
Good team effort every legend did his role ! Tuesday training restart 19:30 at Concordia !
On Saturday, our Lions U15 were facing DEQ. Well, we started the game focused from the start and because DEQ opted for a defensive tactic we got time to settle our defense and start to play from the back !
We got good connection between the defense and midfield and the forwards and got rewarded by a good goal from Jason to give us the lead. A solo effort by Jason whereby he fouled a defender but the referee overlooked the foul gave us the 2-0 lead. Our third goal was the best starting from the back with three passes the ball came to Julia in the middle who saw Daniel making a moving towards the goal and her pass was perfect which help him finish with a small chip over the keeper.
It was 3-0 at half time and for a coach that is the worst score as its hard to motivate your players with 3-0 up ! However we told you the clean sheet was the key of this match and the second half we were very pleased with the players work rate to make sure we didn’t concede a goal. Every player worked very hard today and it showed that we can be serious and achieve our goals and push our level. Gordon finished a great goal with his right foot to make it 4-0 but the build up before the goal was as good as the goal itself ! We kept it at 4-0 and can take this result to the next training and keep improving ourselves !
Well done Lions great team effort ! See you all on Wednesday and you click here for the match statistics.
