Lions in the SIFL Cup semi final

Lions,

Great weekend with a lot of action on and off the field !

[ SIFL Cup ] Kangbei United FC 1-7 Shanghai Lions (02 Mar 2013)

On Saturday, it was freezing cold (welcome to Shanghai) and our opponent were all Chinese, so it was a good build up for the DIB game in three weeks time.

The idea was to play good football but it’s getting more and more difficult on the WGQ pitch nowadays, as well most of our players appeared to be frozen in the first 30mn. However we did manage to score and had a 2-0 lead in the first half.

We never were in trouble and in the second half we pushed a bit harder and more lions put there name on the score sheet 7-1 final score and up to the semi’s vs either DIB, Shooters or Japan.

Six games to go for the championship and our next game on Sat. March. 9th is versus Japan at 9:00 am! so you better all put your alarm clock on right NOW !!!

[ Veteran ] Dulwich Dribblers 0-7 Shanghai Lions (03 Mar 2013)

On Sunday, it was beautiful weather (welcome to Shanghai) and we managed to pull a 13 member Lions squad together, with an average age of 38. Our youngest veteran was Alex, who confirmed that he was still 14 years old…

We played the Dulwich Dribblers and its seemed they had a hangover from the night before as there was a cloud of alcohol hanging over the pitch. We went for the half time tea 2-0.

In the second half the Lions appeared to be fitter and in better shape. The reward was a clean sheet and a 7-0 victory. Special word for Yamada-san who is the second Japanese converted into a Lion and the first Japanese who came late for the game (5 minutes before kick-off).

This veteran league is great for our club as it give the us more depth and more playing opportunities for our members !

SPL

The SPL Lions did good business while they were not playing. Two of their main rivals dropped points. The Cowboys drew 1-1 vs the Bulls and the Marlins drew 1-1 vs the Flamenkos. With these results, it keeps the Lions on top of the SPL and looking at the table, the SPL is the most interesting league in Shanghai this season. Hope you remember why I told all the players that the goal difference is key.  All the four top teams still need to play each other. You can place your bets now with Charles “Al Capino Poker Face”

SPL TABLE

1)      Lions                     played 14             points 34             goal diff               56

2)      Cowboys             played 12             points 31             goal diff               45

3)      Gremio                 played 13             points 31             goal diff               32
