[ SPL News ] CSL Season Ends – All Eyes on the SPL!
Amigos and Amigas,
The CSL Chinese Super League wrapped up its season last Saturday. Despite signing star players and appointing Batistuta as coach, Shanghai Shenhua finished outside the top 10. The root of the problem in Chinese football remains the lack of youth development and the limited number of leagues for young players to participate in.
Meanwhile, the SPL continues to thrive. Last weekend, the Lions participated in the China Nations Cup in Hangzhou and quickly realized that the sports scene in Shanghai is quite strong in comparison. Hangzhou lacks a well-structured men’s or youth league, and only six teams attended the tournament—two of them were from the Lions!
Let’s continue to grow the SPL, making it stronger and giving more teams the opportunity to enjoy serious but fun football in a competitive environment.
🔥 Matchday Recap – November 4, 2012
ERS 5-0 Super 48
ERS remain unbeaten, while Super 48—despite improving—are struggling to find the net. Maybe it’s time to look for a “Super Size Striker” during the winter transfer window?
Gremio 3-1 Japan
With this win, Gremio take the lead in the SPL standings. Japan appear less intense than in previous seasons and will need both effort and luck to climb back up the table.
Flamenkos 2-6 Cowboys
A competitive first half ended 3-2, but the Cowboys showed their fitness and depth in the second half to seal a dominant win. The Flamenkos are still feeling the absence of a few key Spanish players.
Pistolera Bulls 4-7 Shanghai 2000
Plenty of goals in this high-energy match. Pistolera’s keeper had an off-day, while the newcomers Shanghai 2000 celebrated their first SPL victory—an achievement that lifts them to seventh in the table.
