Matty Ward making professional debut

Former Lions youth player made his professional debut

It was a special moment for Matty and his family last week when he made his professional debut in the first team vs. Crystal Palace. Earlier this year, Ipswich Town FC offered him his first pro contract. Luckily , both Keith & Alison his parents were able to watch this special moment. Afterwards he received positive responses in the press and on social media.

The pick of the young replacements was teenager Matt Ward. The player showed a superb touch, a great positional sense and the confidence to turn in tight situations and use the ball well. Very encouraging indeed.

Matty joined our academy in the summer of 2017 when Century Park FC decided to stop their youth program. Matty played first in our youth team but very quickly with our senior team as well.

Beside his talent (which was obvious), his quick feet & great finish; what stood out in those years was Matty’s determination and drive to become a better player. He would not miss one training session and beside our 3 trainings per week; he was still doing some extra to work on his strength and core.

When Covid-19 hit China, he decided to make a move back to the UK where he started at Wroxham. Soon, he got spotted by other clubs but Ipswich Town FC smelled the affair and signed him.

Making professional debut is a great step forward. Well done Matty! All of us are supporting you all the way to the top!

Cheers
