[SPL News] A great season 9 of SPL ends
Amigo’s and Amiga’s,
All good things come to an end ! We had our last 4 league games of the season last Sunday and can now take a look at the final ranking !
10) Galacticos – They had a few key players leaving at the end of last season and found it difficult to field a consistent squad during this season. Credit to them that they still kept trying until the very last game to try to turn things around. I am sure next season they will be good !
9) Super 48 – They hired a new coach (its said he get more paid than Mourinho) and we must admit he did wonders. They picked up their first red card ever and even several yellows this was a signal that they were up for business this season. Famous for their blue wall and their heavy smoking goalkeepers they are an asset to our league. Their strategy is to end every year one place higher so by 2022 they will be SPL Champion and called Super 58 !
8) Cowboys – Their first SPL season and for them it was learning to get used to the level and more physical game of our league. They scored 41 goals which is a lot but the 88 goals they conceded is something they need to work on next season. We are happy they became part of the SPL Family !
7) Japan – They had a “rollercoaster” season. Good games followed by Bad games, Lucky games followed by Unlucky games and an 11 player squad followed by a 38 player squad. In the end the roller coaster stopped somewhere in the middle. Highlight was Yamada-san’s goal which makes him the oldest SPL player to score (62) !
6) Flamenkos – Last year’s runner up but this year in the middle of the pack ! Yes they lost their best player as he went back to Madrid but they had some very good games this season versus the Lions and Hard Days Night. Closer to the end of the season they were running low on players which cost them several points. Something to work on over the summer recruiting young and talented players !
5) Pistolera Bulls – The had a good run early in the season. Especially with Nils their German top scorer in fine form. Scoring 71 goals is a Bulls SPL record but to concede 71 goals is also a Bulls SPL record. Bulls games are always entertaining due to their 2-3-5 formation. Bilgin will prove with his statistics that when he is not there they lack leadership and are most of the time defeated !
4) ERS – Fantastic season for the French. Highest SPL ranking for them and a very good balanced team ! They conceded the least goals only 27 ! The team was very well organized and they way they are going I am sure they can snatch a top 3 spot next season !
3) Lions – Not a bad season but with only 61 goals scored it showed they lacked firing power upfront. Just one point short of being second. The Lions are in a transition period where the older player are gently asked to play less and they young Lions will get more playing time ! Good for the SPL to see that the Lions are not unbeatable in the end !
2) Hard Days Night – Their best season and fully deserved to be in this position ! Last year seventh and this year second ! They had the right formula to be successful as a football team. A good management, young and talented players combined with old and experienced player,a good fair fighting spirit,a great sponsor and even a fan base every game ! Peter picked up the SPL top scorer award with 20 goals and meanwhile HDN picked up the “most cards” award which has been going to Bilgin’s squad for many years in a row.
1)Hawks – SPL Champions ! They scored the most goals 90 ! They lost just two game and used the most players ! Their top scorer scored only 8 goals and the other 82 goals were scored by the other 28 players. We do hope that next season they will have a more consistent team.
All in all a great SPL Season with no incidents except for the “unlucky” Mus ! All games were played in a fair and friendly spirit ! I have deep respect for the referees and Kevin and his team as they never ever let us down and take on the hard job to be a referee ! Great Job by all the Captains to get the teams out every week as I know how hard it is to receive all the text messages on Sunday Morning. Not a single game was forfeited which is very positive ! We thank Yamada for keeping the score and Frederik for keeping our website alive ! Adam our grass master, great great pitch again ! Thanks to Dulwich School and Waigaxiao for renting us the fields and Golden Bridge Company the developer of Green City a big fan of the SPL ! Of course to all the players of the SPL you made this season a success !
