Shanghai Lions Legends vs Super 48, October 30, 2016.

Legends beat Super 48 3-0 to stay in the title race!

It was a beautiful Sunday with perfect football conditions—clear skies, mild temperatures around 20°C, and no pollution.

Before kickoff, three of our Legends—Max, Bob, and Nicolas—had already completed the Shanghai Half Marathon earlier that morning! Remarkably, they still showed up for the match, demonstrating true commitment and team spirit. Hats off to all three!

On the sidelines, Fred F. —fresh from knee surgery—came to support us. A big shoutout to him as well.

🙌 Pre-Game Highlights

  • Matze had a memorable day playing alongside his son Victor, who was visiting Shanghai.
  • Big John completed a full 80 minutes for the first time in a long while.
  • Adil made his debut appearance for the Legends.

🏆 Match Recap

[ Veteran ] Super 48 FC 0-3 Shanghai Lions

This was a must-win match to keep our title hopes alive and improve our goal difference. We started slowly, with the first 20 minutes more of a warm-up—some Halloween “festivities” clearly still lingering in our legs. Despite that, we created chances, including a brilliant effort from James that was denied by the Super 48 keeper.

In the second 20 minutes, we subbed on Bob and Nicolas to bring more firepower upfront. Their impact was immediate, with Bob earning a penalty and calmly converting it himself—while (the other) Fred watched from the sideline. 1-0 up and spirits lifted!

The third quarter saw us hit our rhythm. More chances came, and it was our President himself who netted the second goal, finishing coolly just one day before his 53rd birthday. Super 48 failed to clear the ball, and he made them pay.

In the final phase, we aimed to increase our tally. A silky “Azzeddine-style” step-over from our President set up Victor (Matze’s son), who finished clinically to seal the 3-0 win.

🔥 The Title Race Heats Up

We have two games left. Our direct rivals—Japan, Emerald, and Scotland—will all play each other in the coming weeks. Given the spirit and form we showed today, we’re determined to go all the way and claim the title!

Let’s keep pushing!

Cheers,
Freek
