Legends start 2022 with a win vs. Pures FC

As we are not having league matches until the Chinese New Year, we thought it was a good idea to organize friendly games so that we could stay in shape until next round of big games in February and March. Last Sunday we were up against Pures FC; a Japanese senior team who’s currently playing in the SIFL league.

We like to play against Japanese teams as they never stop running and you need to stay focused for the full game. Our objective then was to gain fitness at first and secondly improve our passing game with short passes by always looking for the easy solutions instead of a difficult long ball.

We had a good line up of 15 players including our youth player YU Xuan who’s just coming back from injury. We started well and put Pures FC under pressure. Within 5mn, Hiro-san found Hira-san through the Pures FC defense and he scored the 1-0. Very soon after, we scored a second after Pures thought of off side but the referee played on and Nicolas could score from close range.

Clement our goal keeper had to make a great save to keep the clean sheet and Hiro scored our third with a great header after a cross of Haroun. Hiro-san was happy as he didn’t score for a couple of months. We couldn’t manage the clean sheet as we let the Pures FC slice through our defense to score the 3-1 from close range.

Freek hit the cross bar with his left foot and Mehdi thought he could lob the keeper when he appeared one on one with him but his effort was just not high enough.

Haroun our captain in fine form on the day scored with an act of brilliance lobbing the ball over the keeper from outside the box but as Japanese never give up the scored a great goal with a blast from the side flying in by the outside post.

Mehdi thought he had scored but as he was the only person on the field who thought he was not in offside position… the goal was canceled to his dismay.

The final goal of the match came from good combinations between David and Haroun setting up our left back Vincent who nicely finished to make the final score 5-2 for the Legends.

[ Friendly ] Shanghai Lions FC 5-2 Shanghai Pures FC

Overall it was a good friendly for us and next Sunday we will play another friendly vs. Nails FC a local team who’s also playing in the SPL Veteran league.

Cynthia was there as her son YU Xuan was playing. She gifted us with several great pictures from the game which we will put in our memory books. Let’s get ready for next Sunday.

Cheers
Freek
