Lions beat Shanghai Celtic FC 5-1

Last Saturday, we had a strong squad with a good mix of young & experienced players to face Shanghai Celtic FC. On top, we were very lucky to that both our keepers Marcel & Paul came to the game. Before the start of the game, we highlighted the importance of the game as only a win will do to make it to the premier league play offs this season.

We started with our usual formation and we opted to start with high-up possession to try to get a quick goal. We start well with high intensity as we kept moving the ball with short passes and good combinations. Our training at cages the week before, proved paying-off.

Within 10 minutes, we had our first real occasion when Mounaim went through the defense but the crossbar declined his effort.  We had to make some changes early in the game as Abo got injured.

The Celtic team tried to fight back and was very close to score but Marcel made a great save that kept us in the game. Few minutes later, it was Mounaim again on the run and now he scored our first goal with a brilliant placed ball which ended in top corner of the goal.

With 1-0 up, we kept pushing as our confidence got a boost. After several corners, Hira-san delivered a good one which was intercepted by Peter at the edge of the box and his strike left the Celtic goalie helpless to make us 2-0 up.

Marcel had another good save when Celtic tried to get back in the game but in the last minute before half-time; Charlie decided to out-dribble the Celtic defense to blast the ball in the top right corner. Great was to end the first half!

Of course we knew nothing was won yet but it was time to put Tommy on in the 2nd half to give him experience. He’s our youngest player… Still 14 yo. Paul also came in to replace Marcel as goalkeeper.

All good and ready to go for the 2nd half. Matthew (another of our promising young player) outplayed two defenders on the right wing and his cross was perfect for the upcoming Hira-san who made it 4-0.

We did slip up at one time when we gave away a penalty. Paul came close but not close enough… However, another good run from Matthew caused panic in the Shanghai Celtic FC box and one of their defender while slipping grabbed him by his feet in the box. Now, a penalty for us… As what we like in our club is to give youngster opportunities; we let the ball to Sebastian & he happily score his first goal for the Lions’ senior team.
