Lions Got Awards In The SIFL League Closing Ceremony

Last Saturday, the season 2023/2024 came to an end with the SIFL League closing tournament and the closing ceremony.

After winning the SIFL League opening tournament last September, we were motivated to win the closing tournament as well. We had a group of young talented Lions helped by a couple of experienced players. We made it to the semi final where we played Cosmos and with 0-0 at the end of the game, we were heading straight to penalties. Disaster struck us when our goalie SJ twisted his ankle badly at the second penalty. Luckily, we found Peter willing to pick up the gloves and guess what… He stopped the penalty and Mehdi stood up to score and put us in the final against Azzurri.

Legs were a bit tired already for both teams and it looked like Azzurri was happy to bring the game to penalties knowing we lacked a goalie and Juliano their keeper having a solid reputation as penalty stopper. Yes, it ended 0-0 and yes Peter stopped the first penalty but after we missed two; the glory went to the Azzurri.

At the ceremony, we collected our trophies for this season and the smiles came back on our faces. We had a great season and we think our success was due to our trainings and team spirit.

Congratluations to Mehdi to be voted Coach of the Year. Well deserved with all the time and effort he put in the team week after week out. Peter, Hira-san and Othmane were voted into the Team of the Year. We thought both Marcel and Paul our goalies should be in that team as well as they played some incredible games for us.

Last but not least, Peter was voted Best Player of the SIFL first Division. Well deserved Peter! You are our role model.
