Lions One Point Away from SIFL Title
It’s looking very good for the Lions after 15 games played and only three matches left. We now need just one point to clinch our first-ever SIFL title! It has been an outstanding season with 14 wins, 1 draw, 82 goals scored, and only 17 conceded — a staggering +65 goal difference.
To put things in perspective:
- DIB (2nd) trail by 8 points with a +35 goal difference
- Shooters (3rd) are 10 points behind at +23
- Azzurri, our long-time rivals, are 21 points behind with a GD of just +2
Before our match against the Dutch, we witnessed a wild game between DIB and Shooters. A draw would have given us the title outright. At halftime, Shooters were leading 3-1, and their coach praised their performance during the break — possibly too soon. In the second half, they imploded, eventually losing 4-3!
[ SIFL ] Shanghai Lions 8–0 Oranje FC
We faced Oranje FC, who are battling relegation, and knew we couldn’t afford to slip. With four goals in each half, we handed them their heaviest loss of the season. A clean sheet was the icing on the cake, thanks to an alert Dim in goal.
It was also a joy to see Chris score after returning from a long injury. As my dutch father remarked post-match, “The Dutch still can’t play football!”
Looking Ahead: Title Decider on April 13
All eyes are now on April 13, when we face the Vikings. One point will seal the deal — unless DIB drop points against Azzurri, which would crown us champions before we even kick off. Either way, we invite all Lions fans and supporters to join us at Waigaoqiao, 3:00 PM, and help make this a day to remember.
[ SPL ] Japan FC 0–1 Shanghai Lions
On Sunday, the SPL Lions are still very much in the title race, earning a narrow but critical 1-0 win over Japan FC. We now need to win the last three games to lift what would be our 8th SPL title.
