Shanghai Lions U18 team facing Japan FC in a friendly match, December 2012.

Lions U18 lost 2-0 but showed great improvement

Dear Young Lions,

It was a cold Sunday to play football, but luckily everyone had just received their Lions winter sweaters to stay warm! Our opponent was Japan FC, a well-organized team known for their technical play, speed, and dangerous counterattacks—making them a great side to test our progress against.

Following our recent training sessions, our goal was clear: play better football than in our last match against them. The game was played in three 25-minute periods, and I’m pleased to say our best performance came in the final third—a sign that we are learning and adapting as the match progresses.

We created several good opportunities and were a bit unlucky not to score. Our defense and goalkeeper were solid, which kept us in the game until the end. Of course, there is still a lot to learn, but that’s why we play these matches—to improve, gain experience, and grow as a team.

Big thanks to the parents who came to support the boys!
