Lions Win the SIFL Plate Competition After Beating Voodoo 4-1

Last Saturday, we enjoyed a beautiful sunny day for our final league game of the 2023/2024 season. To secure the SIFL Plate Competition, we only needed a draw against Voodoo. In our last intense encounter with them, we managed a last-minute draw, ending the game 2-2.

We fielded one of our youngest squads of the season, as a few of our older players were unavailable. Our motivated team had their eyes on the prize.

We started the game well, with fast movements on the wings. A beautiful attack ended with Matthew on the left wing. His cross was perfect for Tommy, but unfortunately, his header went just over the bar.

On their side, Voodoo tried their luck with long balls. They had a chance when one ball dropped behind our defense, but luckily, Marcel was there to save us. Matthew, on fire, outplayed four opponents, but to his horror, his shot went wide.

At halftime, we were a bit frustrated, having had enough chances to score but failing to convert them. We decided to stay positive and fight as a team for the first goal.

The breakthrough came with a great long kick from Marcel, followed up by Peter, who this time put the ball past the keeper. This goal changed the game, as we became hungry for more. Voodoo had to push forward, which favored our counter-attacks. From a corner, we got our second goal as the ball ended up over all the players except for Shaun, who calmly placed it in the net with his left foot.

Voodoo pushed harder and got a few chances but missed the final target. We, on the other hand, had a fast break with Matthew, who acted as provider this time and passed the ball to Charlie, who scored to make it 3-0.

Voodoo did get a goal back, but with few minutes left on the clock, it was only a consolation. The icing on the cake came from another counter-attack in the final minutes of the match. Our youngster Sebastian scored to make it 4-1.

We were thrilled with the team’s performance and the final result, as we won the SIFL Plate Championship, remaining unbeaten in the second round of the competition.

In the evening, many Lions were seen at the “White Party” organized by our very own DJ Skiv. It was a great way to end the 2023/2024 season.

Cheers,
Happy Freek
