Lions Youth Team under-18 players training at Century Park in Shanghai

Lions Youth Team Training Update

Young Lions, we had a strong training session yesterday, led by our experienced Lions top scorer Joel. The session was held at Century Park, on a top-class artificial pitch built with cutting-edge Italian technology—so good, it nearly feels like real grass!

A total of 14 players from our Youth Team (U18 and below) attended, representing a truly international group. The focus of the session was on both technical and tactical development:

⚽ Training Highlights:

  • Proper warm-up routines – Essential for injury prevention.
  • Ball control & movement – Practiced in tight spaces.
  • Communication – Learning to talk and signal on the pitch.
  • Proactive play without the ball – Movement, awareness, and anticipation.
  • Speed & strength drills – To boost athleticism and explosiveness.
  • Position play (10 vs 5 drill) – Emphasized fast transitions between ball possession and ball recovery.
  • Switching play – Finding open space via long passes from congested areas.
  • Shooting practice
  • 7 vs 7 mini-match – Fast-paced game to wrap up the session.

What we love about this group is that each player brings unique strengths—and of course, some areas to improve. The training sessions are exactly where we focus on those weaker points: be it your left-footed shooting, first touch, speed, or defensive work.

💪 Train more → Get fitter → Control the ball better → Build confidence → Enjoy the game more!

🗓 What’s Next?

We’re planning our first match on Sunday, November 11th! Until then, we’ll have two more training sessions on Wednesdays to get ready. Bring your energy, and let’s build toward our first outing as a team.

Also—if you know a talented friend (male or female), under 18, who’s interested, feel free to bring them along for a trial session!

Keep up the hard work, Young Lions—we’re proud of your progress and enjoy coaching you every week!
