Seniors get into the groove with a win over Anzacs FC

Sometimes, it is better to have a small squad as the players are getting more playing time together. Last Saturday, we had only 12 players but this time Jack & Cyril came up on time. We had then a motivated squad willing to make a great match against Anzacs FC.

We opted to move Peter behind the strikers. Cyril took the defensive midfielder role helped by his brother Skiv. On the left we had Masa-san and Hira-san creating havoc to the Anzacs FC defense… Both were too fast and their combinations were a joy to watch.

Our best chance in the beginning came when Masa. Our defender found himself one on one with the keeper but he was just one second too late to finish. Soon after, Skiv had also a great scoring opportunity when he saw the keeper coming out but he could not lift the ball over him.

Anzacs FC did have a few chances but mainly caused by ourselves taking it too easy in our defense. It was a matter of time before we would score our first goal… An assist from Skiv let Peter score his first goal. This combination proved to be effective as Peter was again launched by Skiv to score his second.

It was 2-0 at half time and we agreed not to drop our level and to keep playing with high intensity.

After several missed opportunities, a good combination with Nico set Hira-san free in front of the keeper and he didn’t hesitate to score.

In the meantime, Peter was still hungry for more goals. This time, the through ball came from Houssam and Peter finished with a beauty chipped over the helpless keeper.

Sofar, all our goals had come through the middle. The icing on the cake came with “in fine form” Cyril who gave a super assist to our flying youngster Louka. He stayed calm in front of the keeper and finished cool to make it 5-0 for the Lions.

We thought we had a clean sheet but in the last minute we misjudged a long ball and Anzacs FC got their consolidation goal.

Overall a great performance and a good warm up for our big game against Voodoo in semifinal of SIFL Hebiguchi Cup.

Well done Lions!

Cheers
