Lions Continue Their Unbeaten Run in 2013 with 7-2 Win over Krauts FC
The Shanghai Lions kicked off 2013 with confidence, extending their unbeaten run in the SIFL by defeating Krauts FC 7–2 in what turned into another high-scoring affair.
Despite beating the Krauts 8–0 in our final game of 2012, this time the German squad came prepared — stacking up a defensive wall and making life difficult in the early stages. To make matters more interesting, they were gifted a belated Christmas penalty and took a surprising 1-0 lead.
But the Lions don’t panic. Just before halftime, Allan stepped up with a left-footed rocket into the top corner, leveling the score at 1-1.
🔥 Gwen the Destroyer
In the second half, Coach Freek gave our fullback Gwen special instructions: “Terminate the Germans.”
Mission accepted.
Within minutes, Gwen — usually on the left of our defense — surged forward and finished like a seasoned striker. Moments later, he found the net again.
“Game over.”
— Coach Freek
While we could’ve easily hit double digits, some of our frontmen — notably Jonny and Dani — missed out on the party. Coach Freek’s response?
“Jonny was on the bench complaining. I told him he could go back in when Dani scores… and he never did.”
