Shanghai Lions players celebrating a 7-1 win over Kangbei United in the SIFL Cup 2013 quarter-final

Lions Advance to SIFL Cup Quarter-Finals

The Shanghai Lions made a powerful statement this weekend, storming into the SIFL Cup quarter-finals and continuing their dominance in both the senior and veteran leagues. What a weekend—on and off the pitch!

🦁 [SIFL Cup – 1/8 Final] Kangbei United FC 1-7 Shanghai Lions

In freezing conditions, we faced a fully Chinese squad from Kangbei United — a perfect warm-up ahead of our crucial game vs. DIB in three weeks. The pitch at Waigaoqiao didn’t help, and many of our players took time to adjust, but we still entered halftime with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, the Lions turned up the heat with multiple players finding the back of the net. We wrapped up the match with a solid 7-1 victory, securing our spot in the quarter-finals of the SIFL Cup.

📆 Next up: Saturday, March 9 at 9:00 AM vs. Japan FC — set your alarms now!

🧓 [Veteran League] Dulwich Dribblers 0-7 Shanghai Lions

Sunday brought warmer weather and another great team effort. Our 13-man squad (average age: 38!) came ready to play. Shoutout to Alex, only 14, proving age is just a number!

The Dribblers looked a bit slow after their Saturday night, and we led 2-0 by halftime. Our fitness showed in the second half as we finished with a 7-0 win.

👏 Welcome Yamada-san, our newest Lion — he arrived just in time for kickoff! The Veterans League continues to be a great way for more club members to gain pitch time and match experience.
