Lions Book Their Spot in the SIFL Cup 2013 Semi-Final

What a wild day of football! On Saturday, April 20th, the weather threw everything at us—strong winds, rain, and a sudden drop to 8°C. But we were ready for our SIFL Cup quarter-final clash against Shanghai Cosmos.

Our team spirit was high from the start, and we set out with clear intent: attack early and take control. Fabi wasted no time, scoring the second-fastest goal in Lions history—a powerful header from a corner after just 1 minute and 20 seconds on the clock!

Cosmos opted to play with just one striker, which ultimately worked in our favor. One of our best tactical decisions was to shift left-footer Gwen to the right wing, which paid off in style. He struck twice in just 15 minutes, giving us a 3-0 lead—all goals scored by defenders!

In the second half, we focused on maintaining possession. Matthieu added a fourth to seal a well-earned 4-0 win and a clean sheet. Credit to Cosmos—despite the early blow, they kept pushing until the final whistle and showed great sportsmanship.

With this win, we advance to the SIFL Cup semi-final on June 1st, where we’ll face the Shanghai Shooters—a rematch of last year’s semi-final, which we won 3-0. Let’s make it happen again!

As we enter a crucial stretch—especially in the SPL—we have no matches this weekend. So let’s make training count. We urge all Lions to join training this Wednesday. Let’s hit record attendance and keep the momentum rolling!
