[ SPL News ] It’s Getting Hotter in the SPL
Amigos and Amigas,
We’re down to the final five rounds of the SPL season, and it’s heating up—on and off the pitch!
First, a big shout-out to Adam and Karl for their efforts in maintaining pitch quality. Without a doubt, Century Park and Jinqiao are currently the best football fields in Shanghai. Hats off to you both!
Sunday gifted us with perfect weather again—thank you weather gods! We were also thrilled to officially hand out the first SPL “Team of the Week” award sponsored by Estrella Galicia beer to Super 48. Free Cabreiroá water from Spain was also distributed, adding to the positive and fun SPL atmosphere.
This week’s Estrella Galicia “Team of the Week” award goes to ERS! After a tough start to the season, they’ve bounced back with three consecutive wins. Famous for their resilience and strong team spirit, ERS set a great example of what well-managed amateur football should look like. Well deserved—congratulations!
👉 A note to all players: Let’s keep the SPL enjoyable for all. Please respect the referees and stop contesting every call. Mistakes happen—even at the highest levels—but we must be role models, especially with young fans watching. Play fair, stay focused, and let your football do the talking.
⚽ Match Day Summary – April 21, 2013
Galacticos 0–2 ERS
The Galacticos are steadily improving and showed great structure. A tight first half ended 0-0, but ERS took charge in the second half with goals from Chakib and Nico. As Nico said:
“It was a fair game and we enjoyed playing the Galacticos.”
Super 48 0–3 Flamenkos
Fresh off their Team of the Week award, Super 48 gave it their all. But two first-half goals from Andy and Jaime set the tone. A missed penalty and a comical own goal (off a long punt from keeper Gonzalo) sealed it for the Flamenkos.
Japan 1–2 Marlins
The Japanese side came out sharp, possibly due to their signature one-hour warm-up! They threatened early, but Kevin “The Terminator” struck twice for the Marlins—before and after Japan’s equalizer. A great game played in true SPL spirit with no cards issued.
Shanghai 2000 3–9 Gremio
A one-sided affair, with Gremio going up 3-0 within 30 minutes. Marcelo scored a jaw-dropping goal from his own half—goal of the season contender! Zhu Biao bagged five goals, and the final score was a wild 3-9.
