[ SPL News ] Title Race Wide Open as Lions, Cowboys and Marlins Chase Glory
Amigos and Amigas,
As Christmas decorations begin to appear around the city and temperatures start to dip, the SPL title race is heating up! With just two points separating the top 4 teams, this anniversary season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent memory.
Meanwhile, preparations for the Santa Cup 2012 are well underway! With 16 teams already confirmed, the draw will be done by Mr. Santa himself this weekend. Here’s a recap of last Sunday’s action, which saw 28 goals in just four games!
🐎 Cowboys 5–2 ERS
Two well-coached sides faced off, but Cowboys proved deadly on the counterattack. Striker Zhuang was in unstoppable form as Cowboys surged to a 0–2 lead. A red card reduced them to 10 men, and ERS clawed one back early in the second half. But Cowboys stayed clinical on the break and became SPL leaders for the first time in their history. History made!
🐬 Marlins 11–0 Pistolera Bulls
A rare shutout for the Bulls—and an even rarer 11-goal haul by the Marlins! Star striker Fedja is now on 20 goals this season. Defenses beware: Marlins are clearly chasing the title and the goal difference advantage. Coach Bilgin wasn’t available for comment—perhaps too frustrated by the lack of a yellow card?
🦁 Gremio 2–3 Lions
Call it “El Clásico of the SPL”! Always competitive, always intense. The Lions roared out of the gate with 2 goals in the first 10 minutes. Gremio responded with a thunderbolt before halftime. Early in the second half, an own goal brought the score to 2–2, but the Lions remained composed. Young striker Martin scored the winner and the Lions celebrated a well-earned victory. They now sit just 2 points behind the league leaders.
🔥 Super 48 2–7 Shanghai 2000
Nice to see Super 48 getting on the scoresheet, but this match belonged to Shanghai 2000, who picked up their third win of the season—impressive for a debut team!
🗓 Upcoming Matches (November 25, 2012)
- 10:00-12:00: Gremio vs Flamenkos
- 12:00-14:00: Lions vs ERS
- 14:00-16:00: Japan vs Galacticos

Let’s hope the forecasted rain holds off so we can enjoy another day of exciting SPL football. And remember, if you’d like to update your team page on the SPL website, send your info/photos to Frederick.
Long live the SPL!
Cheers,
