Shanghai Lions celebrating after winning Team of the Year at the That’s Shanghai Sports Awards 2010.

🏆 That’s Shanghai Sports Awards 2010: Shanghai Lions Crowned Team of the Year

The That’s Shanghai Sports Awards 2010 marked the launch of a new era in local sports recognition — and the Shanghai Lions made history by becoming the very first winner of the Team of the Year award.

Out of nine elite amateur teams across sports like rugby, sailing, softball, frisbee, and ice hockey — the Lions rose above the rest. With standout results on the field and unmatched club spirit off it, we earned the votes of both the public and the selection committee.

⚽ What Made 2010 a Historic Year for the Lions?

  • 🥇 SPL Champions
  • 🏆 SPL Cup Winners
  • 🌞 Summer 7s World Cup Winners

These weren’t just titles — they were milestones that cemented our identity as one of the most successful and passionate football clubs in Shanghai.

“We wrote history to get this first-ever Best Sports Team award. But now we want to be the first team to win it twice in a row!”
— Freek Boelen, Shanghai Lions

🦁 A Roaring Club, Not Just a Team

From the loud cheers to the sea of black and green shirts, the Lions’ presence at The Camel was undeniable. While other clubs showed up quietly, the Lions showed up in numbers — over 20 teammates, friends, and supporters turned the bar into our den.

“The Azurris were 3 guys isolated in a corner… we were a real CLUB!”
— Charles Georg, Shanghai Lions

This award wasn’t just about a single result — it was a celebration of everything we stand for: commitment, community, and team spirit. Special thanks to Angela and Mus, true Lions at heart, and everyone who made 2010 unforgettable.

🔥 Not the End — Just the Beginning

This win lit a fire for the rest of the season. The message was clear:
Keep the commitment. Train hard. Stay united. Win the SIFL.

“We are here today because of the commitment of many players. Now let’s prove it again — starting by hammering COSMOS tomorrow!”
— Charles, post-award rallying cry
