Veteran Lions Clinch Second Win
Our “Crème de la Crème” Lions had an early 9:00 AM kick-off last Sunday at Waigaoqiao. Despite the hour, Bellwood FC looked visibly nervous as a large squad of Lions showed up, ready for action.
[ Veteran ] Bellwood FC 1–3 Shanghai Lions
Played on March 17, 2013 at Waigaoqiao
There were notable returns and debuts:
- Adam made his comeback after a two-year hiatus.
- Matze rejoined the squad.
- Charles and Nicolas made their veteran debuts.
In the veteran dressing room, the pre-match talk is slightly different:
“How are your knees? Is your back okay? How are the kids?” – all part of the game at our age!
From the opening whistle, the Lions dominated possession and played trademark short-passing football. We witnessed some brilliant crosses from Thomas, including one taken directly from the corner flag that landed perfectly at the feet of our oldest Lion, Yamada – playing left back!
We wrapped up the first half with a commanding 3-0 lead, thanks to goals from:
- Nicolas
- Thomas
- Fred
In the second half, we fielded a team of 35+ veterans only, and we held strong. The referee awarded Bellwood a consolation goal, but we accepted it with grace — we knew the victory was ours.
With this result, the Veteran Lions continue to lead the Veterans League! A great performance and amazing team spirit — both on and off the pitch!
🔜 Massive Weekend Ahead
This coming weekend will be critical for our club across all teams:
- Saturday: We face DIB FC, currently second in the SIFL.
👉 A win would put us 11 points clear at the top! - Sunday: We take on Flamenkos in the SPL — a must-win game to stay in the title race.
Let’s have all Lions show up and support — your presence matters!
🧠 Final Word
Stay focused.
Train with purpose.
Play with heart.
Cheers
