Shanghai Lions Veteran Team celebrating their 5-0 win over Super 48

Veteran Lions Remain Unbeaten with 5-0 Win over Super 48

The weather finally improved on Sunday, April 21st—and so did the mood, as our crème de la crème Veteran Lions were ready for their third league match of the season.

We were slightly short on numbers, but the squad was bolstered by the timely arrivals of Jack and Michael—who may have looked the part of aging legends—and our special guest Bibi, who flew in just for the occasion. Facing us were no less than 30 Japanese players from Super 48!

Believe it or not, Charles opened the scoring after just 15 minutes with a composed finish. It seems he feels more at ease among veterans—and it’s paying off! Soon after, Jeff—yes, Jeff!—doubled our lead with the 2-0.

In the second half, Charles struck again, and acted like it was business as usual… well, let’s not get carried away. The pressure was then on el Presidente, who had missed a couple of chances, triggering some good-natured laughs from the sidelines. But eventually, he pounced on a loose ball in the box and sent it flying into the top corner—setting a new record as the oldest Lion to score, at 49 years old!

Yamada-san, aged 52 and the main rival to the record, didn’t find the net this time—but he did find the leg of a Super 48 player with a classic old-school tackle. Bibi also joined the party with a goal of his own to wrap things up.

Final score: 5-0—a solid win and three wins in three games for the Lions Legends!
