Youth team draw 3-3 with Baoshan District

Last November 2021, we played vs. Baoshan District team in the youth SFA league. As both teams enjoyed that match, we kept in contact and decided to play friendly game.

So this time we went all the way to Baoshan district to play them in the evening. With only 12 players, our team was small with several players missing due to exams coming up next week.

We knew that we needed to take care of their number 9 as he is a player with a lot of qualities as well as the leader of Baoshan District team on and off the pitch.

Our team started well with a good set up with Kevin our Captain moving up in middle and Yu Yang taking his place in the center defense. We had more possession but they were looking for counters and luckily they ran into off side positions several times. However they took the lead with a low strike form outside the box and after the goal we started to play on the counter. We came close a couple of times but the final pass was not accurate enough.

Lions never give up and it on a corner for Baoshan all of them went forward with Aaron left alone upfront. The ball was blocked and Kevin was fast enough to see Aaron alone on top. The pass was perfect and Aaron on the run just needed to stay calm once reaching the keeper… He did so by out playing him and score our well deserved goal.

Unfortunately, they got their lead back when we thought the ball went out behind our goal… It didn’t and we let the No. 9 run through and score whereas we should have blocked him in the first place.

Talking about No. 9, he scored a beautiful goal on the left cutting to his right foot and putting the ball in our right top corner. Nothing we could say about that and we congratulated him for his nice goal.

Half time we talked about what we needed to improve and asked some players to get more active highlighting we were still in the game despite being 1-3 down.

We were better in the second half not giving away anything in the back and pushing forward.  In the meantime, we got several corners and a couple of free kicks. At the end, Aaron scored his second goal after a scramble into their box.

After that we got plenty of chances to score but maybe rushed a bit too much. We did equalize when it looked like Sammi fouled their keeper after a corner but the referee let us play on for the 3-3.

Fair result for both teams and it is nice to build relationships with local teams so we can both improve.
